Jason serves as the senior officer of XACT, and is responsible for establishing overall corporate strategy and guiding its efficient execution. Before assuming his current duties, he was a principal at Kenda Capital, a large-scale venture capital investor in the energy industry. In that position he managed various energy technology investments, oversaw several successful exits, and served on the boards of multiple portfolio companies. He began his career with Shell, where he worked in a variety of finance roles. Jason holds a finance degree from the University of Colorado, and lives in Houston with his young family that keeps him constantly on the go.
John-Peter has served in roles at XACT ranging from DSP & Communications engineer, to SW & Electrical Engineering manager, to Mechanical Engineering manager. In his current capacity as Vice President of Engineering and Chief Technology Officer, he leads the engineering group and is responsible for project oversight as well as the sustainment and evolution of the XACT Acoustic Network solution. Prior to XACT, John-Peter worked for Nortel developing cutting-edge adaptive management systems for high-power cellular radios. He holds a master’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Calgary, with a specialization in radio and optical communications systems and digital signal processing. John-Peter lives in Calgary, Alberta, where he enjoys outdoor activities in the Canadian Rockies, along with serving as chauffeur, dinosaur adventurer, wrestler, bug hunter, dance partner, and more for his young family.
Duncan is responsible for the safe and effective delivery of services to XACT’s clients, and continuously shaping the product offerings to address their critical needs. His two decades of oil & gas industry experience encompass global operations throughout North and South America, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. For the past three years Duncan has overseen operations, applications development, and manufacturing and procurement functions for XACT—preceded by diverse experience serving in various positions related to operations, rig and drilling engineering, asset management, and technical support. His education includes a degree in computational physics from the United Kingdom’s University of Bath UK, followed by a year of research in underwater acoustics designing an acoustically transparent hydrophone out of an anisotropic piezoelectric polymer. Duncan’s hobbies include family skiing and mountain biking adventures.
John plays a senior technical leadership role within XACT as its Senior Technical Advisor, providing foresight, guidance, and support on technical and IP issues. He also carries out design and analysis projects on an ad hoc basis, and is responsible for the management of the company’s IP portfolio. John is approaching nearly 40 years of research and development experience in the design and deployment of communications systems, including employment at NovAtel Communications, TRLabs, the University of Calgary, and the last decade with XACT. He holds a PhD in electrical engineering, and is a registered professional engineer. John also has a passion for jazz guitar, and performs regularly at jazz venues throughout Calgary.
Andy’s duties with XACT include collaborating with clients to maximize the value of real-time and recorded mode downhole data provided by the acoustic telemetry network. His primary objective is to help them integrate the new data into their existing processes and systems to drive efficiency, cost savings, and safety in operations where downhole data was not previously available. Before joining the XACT team, he accumulated some quarter-century of experience in the upstream oilfield industry with Schlumberger where he participated in global operations such as drilling and measurements, engineering and development of downhole tools, and the rollout of new technology specializing in borehole acoustics and geophysics. Andy holds both bachelors and master’s degrees in geology and engineering geology from the University of Durham. He’s married with two boys, and serves as unpaid taxi driver and chief supporter of their soccer and chess ambitions.
Tara comes to XACT with a diverse background across many different industries including manufacturing, retail, commercial and residential construction and management, as well as 7 years experience in Oil and Gas Services. Prior to coming to XACT, she was corporate controller for an owner managed private equity company located in Calgary, and was responsible for the reporting for 35 actively managed entities owned by the company. She has an entrepreneurial spirit and started her own home theatre and automation company with her husband because of their shared love of technology. Tara has a young family keeping her busy with various activities like skiing, skating, swimming and gymnastics, and is an avid scuba diver. Tara has a bachelor’s degree in Business Economics from the University of Saskatchewan and is a Canadian Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA, CA).
As Business Development Director, Sergio is responsible for understanding XACT’s customers’ current and future needs, and for building a bridge between them and XACT’s value proposition. Prior to XACT, he spent 20 years in different technical and managerial positions at Schlumberger and Murphy Oil. During this time, he became an expert in sand control and fracturing and was recognized as an outstanding technical editor by the SPE in two different occasions. Sergio holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from ITESM, and has complemented his education with oil industry‐focused training at the University of Tulsa. He has working experience in the Americas and Asia. Outside of work, Sergio is passionate about his beautiful wife and two kids. His real goal in life is to beat his sons at Super Smash Bros, but he deems it an impossible mission and instead chooses to spend time volunteering at his Church and pursuing Theology studies.
Jennifer joined XACT in 2011 and became QHSSE Manager in 2013. Prior to working at XACT, Jennifer’s experience included mineral lease administration in the oil and gas industry. With certifications in EMS and Health, Safety and Environment, Jennifer is motivated by identifying and mitigating risk to ensure work is completed effectively and safely. She is also an internal quality and COR auditor. Jennifer lives in Calgary and enjoys golfing, travelling and spending time with family and friends.
